Betting Structure

Poker is basically a card game which is played with a deck of 52 cards. Normally 2 to 8 people sit around a table and play poker. Poker can be played either for real money or for fun. However, betting doubles the fun and excitement of poker games. A term used for game betting is Limit. A high limit game means a game involving lot of money and low limit game means a game with low money amount. However, the different game limits are:

Structured Limit - If you play poker with structured limit then the amount of bet is fixed and player can raise bet only in pre-defined betting rounds. The famous structured limit games are: $1/$2 or $20/$40, $5/$10 and $5/$10/$20. If the bet is taken place at pre-flop or on flop then this game is called $1/$2 game or $20/$40. In $5/$10 game, a player can bet $5 at a time and the betting amount is doubled on turn and river. The 5/$10/$20 is similar to the $5/$10 except this that a player can bet $10 or $20 on the river.

Spread Limit - In this type of betting, the minimum bet and the maximum bet is fixed. A player has to bet an amount equal to the minimum bet limit and he/she can raise equal to the maximum bet. For example in a $1-$5 game, a player can bet an amount lying between this range in any betting round. If there are three ranges i.e. $1-$5-$10 then you can bet between $1 - $5 during any betting round but on river you can bet between $1 - $ 10.
The same pattern will be followed for $1-$5-$5-$10 game.

Pot Limit - The maximum amount a player can bet is equal to the amount of the pot. The minimum raise must be at least as much as the previous raise or bet in the same round. However, the maximum raise is to the size of the pot.

No Limit - It means you can bet any amount between the cost of the big blind and the amount of money you have on the table during any betting round.
